About Maine Society
Our Mission
Maine Society exists to be the most useful outdoor guide to the state of Maine. We cover every trail, lake, campground, park, and beach worth visiting, and we do it with the kind of detail you only get from people who actually spend their weekends out there.
What We Cover
Our guides span every major outdoor activity in Maine: hiking trails from easy coastal walks to technical alpine scrambles, campgrounds from drive-in sites to remote backcountry spots, lakes for swimming and fishing, state and national parks, and the best beaches along the coast. We also publish gear guides tested specifically on Maine terrain and in Maine weather.
How We Research
Every location guide on this site is based on firsthand experience. We hike the trails, stay at the campgrounds, paddle the lakes, and walk the beaches before writing about them. We verify access points, parking details, trail conditions, and fees so you can plan with confidence.
When conditions change, we update our guides. Trail closures, new campground regulations, seasonal road access -- we keep things current so you are never surprised at the trailhead.
Our Approach to Recommendations
We recommend gear, campgrounds, and destinations based on real testing and honest assessment. When we link to products, some of those links are affiliate links, meaning we earn a small commission if you make a purchase. This never influences which products we recommend or how we rate them. We disclose affiliate relationships clearly.
We do not accept payment for positive reviews. If something is not good enough to recommend, it does not appear on this site.
